The 2011 J/24 District 20 Championship will be held on the waters of San Francisco Bay the weekend of August 6th and 7th, 2011 hosted by the Berkeley Yacht Club. There is a practice race planned for the evening of Friday, August 5th. The "Berkeley Circle" is considered the most popular sailing venue on the West Coast. Its proximity to San Francisco, generally strong winds and scenic surroundings make it an ideal venue for the events of the 2011 J/24 District 20 Championship.
Touchstone Management Consultants, Inc., the title sponsor, will present the regatta at the historic Berkeley Yacht Club. With spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline, reserved club mooring facilities, and first class restaurants close by, the club is one of the leading yacht clubs on the West Coast. This year the Berkeley Yacht Club has been kind enough to step-up and officially host our event. Under the direction of Berkeley Yacht Club's Executive Team, and with the support of Berkeley Yacht Club volunteers, Travis Lund and Danny Pavel of Travis Sailing will be spear-heading all of the on-the-water activities and protest committee sessions. This year we'll have a significant number of boats from Southern California attending our regatta as they have designated it as one of their 2011 "Road Master" Championship Series events. Additionally, we anticipate a couple of Pacific Northwest teams joining us. This includes the current two (2) time Western Regional Champion. The point of particular note is that Chef Lulu is cooking her award winning Paella feast for all participating J/24 sailors, and guests, on Saturday evening!
So, mark your calendars now and plan to be in Berkeley the first weekend in August to participate in all the great racing and enjoy the fun social events!
What's that you say? Will it blow like the dogs? Will it be cold? You Bet! Samuel Clemens said it all; "the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco!" Bring your foulies and we'll see you there!
